Regardless of your occupation, or experience, the basis of any planning (business
or personal) requires strong communication, organizational, and note taking skills.
A new year means a new time to set out your goals and expectations. While it is a bit
overwhelming to think about all you want to accomplish and how you will do so, you don’t have to be a professional planner to stick to your timeline. While we’re on the subject however, most event planners do apply the tools of their trade and say that their career tricks are absolutely transferable and attainable for everyday use.

Keep Calm & Plan On

Organization is key – when you have a structured plan, there is less stress and room for
creativity to think outside-of-the-box and see the bigger picture of your goals. As an
experienced Event Planner, Angela Renick, of our very own A’vie Events is no stranger to staying on task and limiting distractions. From completing to-do lists, to booking and keeping appointments, there’s no reason to get overwhelmed – here are a few of Angela’s tips for organization and how they can transition into every day aspects of your life:

  • Define & Personalize:
    • The best way to stay organized is by having a planning system that reflects you. But before the creative aspect can take place, you should decide what direction you want to go in when it comes to your planning strategy. Be clear and set defined goals. By using tools that fit your style and direction (for instance, color coordinating, using stickers/fun designs etc.) you will find that staying committed to your organization will be easy and even fun.

    • Life is a bit chaotic – with a number of meetings, appointments, dates, and miscellaneous events that pop up, it’s easy to feel like you’re under a time constraint. To remain on track, create an itemized checklist. There’s nothing more gratifying than getting things done and physically crossing it off of your list. This visual satisfaction should be accompanied with a deadline to make any task (big or small) seem less intimidating.
  • Digital & Traditional Methods:
    • Again, this comes down to how you personalize your approach, but doubling up on paper and electronic reminders has its benefits. For starters, you’ll have an additional cue to get things done and you won’t have any excuses to not start/finish something. It can be easy to choose one method over the other but using both digital and traditional methods of organization will ensure that you don’t forget any important notes or approaching dates and it will keep you in the habit of staying on top of yourself.
  • Celebrate the Small Wins:
    • As you go through your list and goals, take time to review the progress you have made! Small victories will give you a push to keep moving forward and if you encounter some losses along the way (i.e. having to push something on your list to another time), don’t be discouraged. Maintaining your motivation will only help increase your productivity and serve as a nice reminder of how your system uniquely works.

Everyone has their own unique way of decluttering their mess, but the most important thing to remember is to take your time and stay calm through the chaos – even the most experienced planners do so!
